As November draws to a close, we hope you have the chance to relax with family and friends and enjoy Thanksgiving.

Sara Swiren was recognized by the Volunteer Lawyers Program for her pro bono service this year. Get Your Netflix Fix
If you do have the chance to relax with friends and family this Thanksgiving, and you happen to be into a little binge watching, you shouldn’t have a problem taking in at least one of these new shows over Thanksgiving.
Today, Nov. 20, Netflix releases season 1 of the series Jessica Jones, its latest Marvel original series, which is “Dark, real, incredibly engrossing…” according to Wired.
This heroine has some formidable super powers.

Today is Universal Children’s Day
“First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954,” according to Wikipedia, “it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world’s children.”

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Nov. 25
The day before Thanksgiving is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, formally recognized by the United Nations, to raise awareness that violence against women remains a major issue throughout the world.

Thanksgiving on Nov. 26
The first Thanksgiving wasn’t just a huge meal and football on TV – it was a three-day festival with feasting, hunting, and entertainments, in honor of the pilgrims’ first successful harvest.
And, believe it or not, turkey and pumpkin pie weren’t on the menu.

A Month for Raising Awareness
There are also many other causes promoted for public awareness and events that take place in the month of November, including:
- Movember, the famous mustache-growing cause to support men’s health
- National Adoption Month, which seeks to promote awareness of the need for families to adopt foster children
- National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, the month-long writing intensive for the creatively inclined
